FAQs
Here are some of the most common questions people have about hypnosis
What happens during hypnosis?
So when in hypnosis your mind is active and alert the entire time. You’re going to hear everything I say and you’ll remember as much as you would from any normal conversation.
The movies and TV give us the idea that it might be some sort of loss of control, when really what you’ll find is it’s about helping people to take back control over those parts of life that may have seemed beyond control before. So specifically habits and behaviours, as well as the associated emotions, beliefs, and feelings as well. So it’s a whole mind, whole body approach.
What does hypnosis feel like?
As we proceed, you may discover this almost profound relaxation like you’re sinking into the chair that you’re seated in. Or you may discover this almost light and weightless sensation, like a body floating in water or like a balloon in the air. Or my favourite one, you may discover this almost miraculous feeling that you’re in a chair listening to me talk to you.
So whatever you’re feeling is what you’re supposed to feel. There’s not one subjective feeling. There’s not one specific hypnotised feeling. I mean, what does thinking feel like?
What will I experience in hypnosis?
There may be some moments when you find yourself so deeply interested in every single word that I say, which also means there are some moments where your mind wanders off to who-knows-where. Let it. We describe hypnosis as the bypassing of the critical faculty of the mind, so as you notice your attention kind of coming and going, really just take that as a nod of just how well you’re doing.
What if I need to move or scratch my nose during hypnosis?
You’re allowed to scratch your nose, cough, sneeze, adjust your position in the chair, whatever makes you feel comfortable, really, go for it. It won’t affect the hypnosis.
Will I tell you all my deepest secrets?
Not unless you want to. So you won’t be giving me your ATM number.
How will I know when I’m in hypnosis ?
I’m going to layer some things into the process that confirm for both of us just how well you’re doing. They’re moments of hypnotic phenomenon. They’re kind of fun for you, but they’re mostly there for me. The paraphrase is simple. When you’re responding to these instructions, that tells me I can use these techniques. And then you’re deeper in hypnosis and you respond to those instructions, oh good, now I can use those techniques. So it’s all actually very calibrated and very focused as we work together
The Hypnotist
I have been a certified hypnotherapist for just over a decade and now I have left the consulting room behind and gone completely online so I can reach more people and they can reach me much easily.
